Circular Engineering for the Sea Project / Ingeniería circular para el proyecto del mar
RECYCLED SAIL
The recycled sail is an experimental nautical prototype investigating how PET, PE and PP microplastics recovered from the Mediterranean coast can be combined with recycled fibres and a thermo-fused matrix to produce a traceable, potentially recyclable technical laminate.
TECHNICAL AND NARRATIVE GOAL
Recover and transform marine plastic waste into technical material with functional and communicative value.

MATERIALS AND PROCESS
- PET, PE and PP microplastics from the Mediterranean coast.
- Recycled Dacron or nylon fibres.
- Thermo-fused PET matrix.
- Multilayer laminate under 1 mm thick.
TECHNICAL VALIDATION
The prototype is tested for tensile strength, tear resistance, dimensional stability, permeability and UV and saltwater behaviour.
SUSTAINABILITY DATASHEET
- Origin: recovered, sorted marine plastic.
- Target recycled content: above 85%.
- Energy: electric process, potentially solar powered.
- End of life: recyclable, separable and traceable.
- Applications: experimental sail, technical textile and education.
